PyeongChang 2018 is about to officially open on February 9. In order to ensure the security of this year, South Korea has taken a series of anti-terrorism measures, including the deployment of anti-drone equipment, which is used to prevent drone airstrikes.

The PyeongChang opening ceremony will be held on Feb. 9 at the PyeongChang Olympic Stadium, which is located about 50 miles away from the demilitarized zone along the border between the two Koreas. South Korea has taken numerous anti-terrorism measures to ensure that this is conducted safely.

Coming up, South Korean officials are preparing a fleet of tactical drones with special equipment to deter terrorism. According to Korean media reports, the fleet includes drones equipped with cameras, drones with face recognition capabilities, and drones that can catch suspicious drones with nets.

And to prevent security risks caused by foreign drones, all Olympic venues, including the Pyeongchang, Gangneung and Jeongseon stadiums, will be designated as no-fly zones.

In addition, South Korean officials are preparing anti-drone guns, including radio signal jamming guns that can make drones lose control, as well as shotguns designed specifically to shoot down drones. A news photo from South Korea's National Counterterrorism Center shows a soldier aiming an anti-drone gun into the sky during a training exercise.

Other security precautions include a network of more than 900 closed-circuit television surveillance systems equipped with object recognition capabilities to detect suspicious packages; enhanced cyber security to prevent hacking; 5,000 soldiers who will provide security throughout the competition; and South Korea's preparedness for vehicle crash attacks that have previously occurred in both Paris and New York.
